Can You Drink Alcohol on HCG Diet?
The consumption of alcohol on HCG Diet is counterproductive to the goal you want to achieve. Think about it like this: you are trying to slim down your body so why would you want to consume empty calories?
The HCG Diet follows a very strict protocol that works. You limit caloric intake to between 500 and 700 calories a day. HCG and vitamin B12 injections help you mobilize and burn your stored fat. Your liver is busy processing and removing that fat from your body.
When you ask can I drink alcohol on HCG Diet, you are working against what you wish to accomplish. Why would you sabotage your own efforts? If you want to continue to drink, do not begin the HCG Diet.
But, what if I have a special event to attend? I want to be able to drink a glass of champagne or wine on HCG Diet to celebrate.
Here at Weight Loss Medical Center, we know that life is filled with special events. Beverages such as dry red or white wine or champagne are considered the best alcohol on HCG Diet programs. That still does not mean that we will recommend their consumption during Phase 2. When you are in the fat-burning, low-calorie phase of the HCG Diet, your body is not taking in enough calories to support alcohol intake. Any alcohol that you do consume will likely go straight to your head (and your abdomen).
If you absolutely must have a drink, combining a small amount of wine or champagne with sparkling mineral water is your safest option. Again, this is not recommended until you reach Phase 3 of the HCG Diet.
Reasons to Avoid Alcohol on HCG Diet
We have often been asked if it is possible to substitute 100 calories of wine for 100 calories of food. The answer here is no. The effects of alcohol on HCG Diet are entirely different from those of the foods you will consume. Remember, meals consist of high-quality protein and vegetables that your body needs to function. If you do not consume a minimum of 500 calories of food, you may feel weak, light-headed, and hungry. Those feelings could lead to overeating or cheating.
If you drink any alcohol on HCG Diet, you also cause your liver to stop processing the fat you are mobilizing. Instead, the liver must turn all its efforts over to processing and removing alcohol from your body.
The final reason to avoid alcohol while on the HCG Diet is that you do not want to see the numbers on the scale go up. Alcohol contains sugar and empty calories that can thwart your goal of losing weight.
How to Avoid Alcohol on HCG Diet but Still Enjoy “Adult” Beverages
They say the best way to avoid doing something you do not want to do is to stay away from situations that could put you in harm’s way. If you know that going to happy hour at the neighborhood bar causes you to overindulge, avoidance of that location is the best way to avoid cheating with alcohol on HCG Diet.
Now, you might think that six weeks of not going out seems like a lifetime. For some people that might be true. So, how can you still go out, have a good time with friends, and stick to the HCG Diet?
It all begins with your mindset. Think about what is most important to you in this scenario – is it the drinks or the socializing? If it is the drinking, maybe the HCG Diet is not the best choice for you. Most people will say it is being with friends. If that is the case, then sticking to your weight loss program will not be difficult.
Tell the bartender to make you a non-alcoholic beverage, such as a mojito using mint leaves, sparkling mineral water, fresh lime juice, and some powdered or liquid stevia. Keep some stevia with you at all times for this very purpose. In fact, the juice from any citrus fruit can help make a refreshing beverage when combined with sparkling mineral water.
When you can go out and avoid an alcohol cheat, HCG Diet success can be yours. Since people who drink at bars and restaurants also tend to overeat, you will be doing yourself a bigger favor. When it comes time to order food, you will be able to discuss your dietary needs with the chef. Most establishments can prepare something tasty that will allow you to stick to your HCG Diet.
